Kirsty MacDonald – Personal Biography

Kirsty MacDonald is an Associate employment law solicitor at DPH Legal.

Kirsty gained a first-class degree in Economics at the University of Northumbria at Newcastle, before undertaking a post graduate diploma in law and legal practice course at the College of Law in York.  She has specialised in employment law for nearly 20 years.

Kirsty advises and represents public, regulatory and private sector organisations in respect of a wide range of employment law services including discrimination, dismissals, grievances, terms and conditions, policies, TUPE, settlement agreements and complex re-organisations. She also provides advice on a wide range of HR and Employee relations issues including EDI, strategic objectives and conflict resolution. She regularly works in collaboration with senior HR Leaders and Chief Executives to problem solve difficult issues and seek a pragmatic and cost-efficient resolution.

Kirsty regularly defends organisations in respect of claims in the Employment Tribunal, Employment Appeal Tribunal and High Court. Her major successes are a precedent case under the Part Time Workers Regulations, a test case in the Court of Appeal and several cases in the High Court defending injunctions and judicial review proceedings.

Kirsty has been ranked by recognised directories for her expertise in this field and has been lead lawyer in several high profile and precedent cases – some quoted in national press, Hansard and the House of Commons. She has developed a strong reputation as being commercially focused and is regularly instructed by clients in respect of complex, high value litigation.

Kirsty is a member of the Law Society and the Employment Law Association.
