Explore the Culinary Delights of Swindon Town

This town had its origins as a market town in Wiltshire in the 1800s, however, the town soon grew into a major urban centre when the Great Western Railway came through the area in the 1840s.

Today Swindon is a thriving town with some of the most beautiful natural surroundings in the British Isles. It retains its rustic charm while still allowing visitors access to all the modern amenities that could be found in any large city – and this includes access to restaurants that have consistently been voted by diners as among Britain’s best.

So if you are ever in Wiltshire you’ll want to know the restaurants and drinking spots that will provide a culinary experience that will not be forgotten. Our legal team have often enjoyed lunch out in Swindon town after a morning of advising clients.

Here are some of the best.

1. The Bell at Ramsbury

If there was ever a pub that epitomised the English ideal of a place to have a pint in, then this is it.

In 2017 the AA named this pub the best in the land. Incredibly friendly service and pub food that goes just that extra mile with fresh ingredients sourced directly from the Ramsbury Estate.

The interior of this pub is unassuming – but don’t let that fool you. The fisherman’s Board and the Steak and Kidney pie are both incredible. Visit the restaurant which is part of the establishment and enjoy subtle flavours of old favourites – or new twists that add an element of excitement.

2. The Miller & Carter Steakhouse.

It should be noted that this is part of a chain – but really when steak tastes this good who really cares? The 30-day-aged steaks just ooze with flavour. Sourced from both British and Irish farms the beef is of incredible quality.

Both the sirloin and the tomahawk steaks have garnered huge praise from diners who return again and again to enjoy the expertly prepared cuts of meat. The starters such as the Beef and Marrow Bon Bons should not be ignored.

3. Los Gatos.

If you have a hankering for Spanish food while in the town then you simply cannot afford to ignore what has become one of the go-to restaurants in the town – Los Gatos. Here one can enjoy incredible Tapas and an ambience second to none.
The place is usually packed to the rafters with regulars that are enjoying both the food – and the experience. The tapas are incredible – and there are also vegetarian and vegan options available. If you don’t at least try the Paella you’ll be doing yourself a disservice.

4. The Crown Inn, Broad Hinton.

Take a trip out into the countryside and experience a pub that really adheres to the old and trusted ideas and what an English pub should be all about. Massively friendly service and – most importantly welcoming regulars make this pub the perfect place to spend a summer evening or enjoy a welcome respite from the cold of a winter’s night.

Great fun for the whole family with events such as face painting for the kids and excellent food – including a fantastic carvery spread on Sundays this is a pub that is well worth a visit.

5. The Yak Himalayan Kitchen.

For those with a taste for a culinary adventure, this is a venue that will not disappoint. A relative newcomer to the town’s eatery scene it has been greeted with enthusiasm by both locals and visitors to the area. The presentation is no-nonsense – but the flavours are simply sublime, this is Nepalese food at its very best.

The experienced chefs provide that authentic taste that will have even the most jaded of palettes asking for more.

6. The Siam Thai in Old Town.

Thai food has taken the world by storm and after a visit to Siam Thai, it’s not difficult to see why. 5 Star ratings on some of the best travel sites on the globe are a testament to just how good the food is at this venue.

The seafood is incredible – as are the other offerings on its menu. The ‘Fragrant Soft Shell Crab in Salt and Chilli ‘ is a simple and subtle delight as is the ‘Panang Curry’ – but you really cannot go wrong at this wonderful eatery.

This town has some marvellous culinary experiences waiting for those who will be visiting the area – don’t miss out if you are ever in Wiltshire.
